Getting Started with Ledger®

Official Site® | Ledger.com/Start®

Welcome to Ledger.com/Start®, the official destination to begin your journey with Ledger® hardware wallets. Whether you're new to the world of cryptocurrencies or an experienced user, Ledger® offers top-tier security for managing your digital assets. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up your Ledger wallet and getting started with Ledger Live, ensuring your crypto is safe and accessible.

Step 1: Visit Ledger.com/Start®

To begin the setup process securely, head over to Ledger.com/Start®—the official starting point for your Ledger hardware wallet. This website ensures that you access only trusted resources and software, helping to prevent phishing and scams. Never download software or visit setup pages from unverified links.

Step 2: Download Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the application you’ll need to manage your Ledger hardware wallet and interact with your cryptocurrencies. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile devices (iOS and Android).

  1. Click on the "Download Ledger Live" button on the Ledger.com/Start® page.
  2. Follow the instructions to install the application on your computer or mobile device.
  3. Once the download is complete, open Ledger Live and get ready to set up your device.

Step 3: Set Up Your Ledger Hardware Wallet

After downloading Ledger Live, the next step is setting up your Ledger hardware wallet. Ledger offers several models, including the Nano S, Nano X, and Nano S Plus. Here's how to get started:

  1. Connect Your Device: Plug your Ledger hardware wallet into your computer or mobile device using the provided USB cable (or Bluetooth for the Nano X).
  2. Create a PIN Code: Choose a PIN code directly on the device. This code will secure your wallet and protect your assets from unauthorized access.
  3. Write Down Your Recovery Phrase: After setting up your PIN, you’ll be shown a 24-word recovery phrase. This phrase is your only backup in case your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. Write it down on the provided recovery sheet and store it in a safe location. Never share this phrase with anyone, as it can be used to access your assets.

Once the initial setup is complete, you’ll be able to move on to using Ledger Live for further configuration.

Step 4: Pair Your Ledger Device with Ledger Live

  1. Launch Ledger Live: Open the app and connect your Ledger hardware wallet to your computer or mobile device.
  2. Verify Your PIN: Enter the PIN you created on your Ledger device.
  3. Select “Get Started” in Ledger Live: The app will automatically detect your device and guide you through the setup process, including adding cryptocurrency accounts.

At this point, you can choose whether to set up a new wallet or restore an existing one using your recovery phrase.

Step 5: Install Cryptocurrency Apps on Your Ledger Device

To manage different cryptocurrencies, you'll need to install apps on your Ledger device. Ledger Live allows you to manage over 5,500 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many others. Here's how to install them:

  1. Navigate to the "Manager" section in Ledger Live.
  2. Install Cryptocurrency Apps: Browse the available apps and select the ones you wish to use.
  3. Confirm Installation: Your Ledger device will ask for your confirmation to install the app. Once installed, you can manage your assets securely.

Step 6: Add Cryptocurrency Accounts

Once your apps are installed, you can add accounts for each supported cryptocurrency. Here's how:

  1. Go to the “Accounts” tab in Ledger Live.
  2. Click “Add Account” and select the cryptocurrency app you just installed.
  3. Follow the prompts to link the account with your Ledger device.

From here, you can view your account balances, receive cryptocurrencies, and make transactions.

Step 7: Ensure Ongoing Security

Ledger takes security seriously. Follow these best practices to ensure the ongoing protection of your assets:

  • Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, and always store it securely.
  • Enable regular updates for your Ledger firmware and Ledger Live application.
  • Enable two-factor authentication where applicable, and use strong, unique passwords for all associated accounts.
